Showcase All-Star Weekend
The 2007 Senior Showcase All-Star Weekend offered players and coaches a
one of a kind experience. Players and coaches for the event were treated to a
Welcome Reception Dinner at the Amway Arena and court side attendance to the
Orlando Magic vs. New Jersey Nets shoot-around and attended the game.
On Saturday, players had a phenomenal experience at the THE EDGE Training
Facility hosted by former NBA Slam Dunk Champion and current ESPN NBA Analyst,
Dee Brown. Players participated in a multi-station combine, recruiting session,
state-of-the-art video analysis, and much more.
Saturday afternoon and evening events included two superb un-signed All-Star
games with a 89-88 Red All-Star Game and 117-94 Blue All-Star Game. THE EDGE
3-Point Shootout was packed full of talented shooters and ended in a finale
featuring Joey Rodriguez, attending Virgina Commonwealth University defeating
Javi Gonzalez, attending North Carolina State University. The Fasttrack Scouting
Slam Dunk Contest had a array of amazing and creative dunks. Jay Love from 102
JAMZ hosted the event which saw Jamal Owens enter his last dunk attempt versus
Myk Brown needing 47 points to win. Jamal scored and finished with a perfect
score of 50 by throwing the basketball off the rear of the backboard, then
catching and dunking from the front.
Another capacity crowd witnessed two unbelievable rosters of talent compete in
the Florida East vs. West All-Star Game. The game included exciting action, slam
dunks, and more as the West All-Stars won the game 114-103 over the East
All-Stars. Many records were broken or tied during the game including Jean
Michel Yotio, attending the University of Central Florida equaling the rebound
record and Joey Rodriguez breaking the long standing assist record with 14.
